First
Ever Junior Junior Club Member Tournament Held May 11th
Photos from the event in our
2013 Photo Gallery
We had a first for the club recently. At the request of
several of our Junior Junior members, which are the 5-10
year olds, we held an "all fish" tournament on Kent Lake on
Saturday May 11th. All of our little guys showed up
all decked out in the new Michigan Bass Anglers club shirts
and fished out of our club boats in a 3 hour tournament.
They were allowed to use any baits they wanted including
live bait, to try to catch either Bass for a Bass Tournament
or Panfish for a Panfish tournament. You could feel
the excitement at launch. The bass were tallied on our
club Golden Rule tournament sheets while they simply had to
keep track of how many panfish they caught all day. A
total of 5 club boats helped out. The boaters were
allowed to help out the Junior anglers any way they wanted,
the kids just needed to be involved in some way in the fish
catch. That included help reel the fish in after the
boater or parent set the hook. The whole idea was to
get the young anglers out on the water and expose them to
the tournament fishing experience. They all had a
great time. The boys even managed to have a bunch of
energy afterwards to run and play in the park. A perk
after the tournament was a picnic lunch we had for everyone.
We had chicken, chips and pop after we came in off the lake.
In all the tournament was a huge success. The parents
seemed to enjoy the day was well. This was a perfect example
of how much interest the younger kids have in fishing and
the sport in general. |

Michigan
Bass Angler, Junior club member, takes 2nd place in Lake St
Clair Walleye Association April Derby.
Joey Elliott, a Junior Michigan Bass
Anglers Youth club member, caught a 19 3/4 walleye, to beat
his brother Davy, 18 1/2 inch to take second place on their
new Triton boat, from
D and
R Sports. First, place was 20 1/2 inches. The boys won a
new fishing rod, two fillet knifes, fishing line, and soft
plastic baits. The fish was caught jigging in the Detroit
River, with over 40 boats in sight on a sunny Sunday
morning. It is very obvious that fishing is in his blood.

Field Trip to D & R Sports
was a lot of fun
Our Bass club is
always looking for interesting things to do to keep our
members involved.
This month we went to D & R
Sports in Kalamazoo. We sat in on all of the seminars
and met the pros. Mark Zona, Jonathon Van Dam, Gerry Gostenik,
Skeet Reese and Ish Monroe were all there. Some of the
boys even got pictures with them . We also did some
spring
shopping to get ready for the upcoming season. We went
March 30th on a Saturday. We even got to wear our
brand new club shirts to the event and Randy Van Dam and
Skeet Reese even noticed them..

Marcel
Veenstra Seminar was very informative...
As part of an on going effort to teach our
youth members as much as possible, Marcel Veenstra
graciously offered to do a seminar about bass fishing at one
of our meetings. Marcel cam to a meeting we set up at
the Northfield Township Fire Station on Main Street in
Whitmore Lake. Marcel spent an entire two hours
speaking on everything from how to fish Kent Lake to what
type of baits to use during certain seasons. We had
about 30 people at the seminar. Everyone learned a
lot, even the adults who attended. We want to thank
Marcel for doing this seminar. He had done one before,
right after the club was formed, back in 2008. At that
time the Youth club was only about 10 members. We have
grown to 25 youth member and 30 adult members this year.

Wednesday of each month at the Novi Gander Mountain store
from 7-9 pm.
Our next Youth Meeting is scheduled for WEDNESDAY May 15, 2013
back at Gander Mountain.
We encourage all of
our youth members to attend. Remember, one of the
requirements you are required to make is at least 2 of the 5
meetings, to meet your 25% minimum requirement to fish the
Junior State Championship. |

New Club Shirts Acquired for
the Entire Club
<Here are the sponsors who stepped up and help us get our
new shirts.
After some extensive research and lots of discussion,
our club took a big forward to help
increase our club presence. We have created a new
sublimated shirt that will display several sponsor logos and
help promote our club and show support for our sponsors.
The shirts are great looking and have already been noticed
by some famous people. Skeet Reese was at the D and R
Store when we all went there for their recent open house and
seminars. He asked about the club, when he saw all of the
bright blue and yellow shirts all over the place. The new
shirts will be worn at all of our tournaments and especially
at the Junior State Championship this year. We want to graciously thank all of our loyal
sponsors and some very new ones. We can't thank you
enough. The shirt the club chose is shown to the
right... |

2012 Banquet was a great success...
This years Michigan Bass Anglers Banquet and Awards
dinner was a big success. We had around 60 people at the
banquet .We did a pot luck dinner again this year and we had food
galore. Everyone brought a dish to pass. All of our
Youth Club members got their trophies as did the top finishers in
Angler of the Year and Mr. Bass in the adult club.
We
also handed out Certificates to all of our "Junior" Junior Angles
for helping out at various evnets this past season. We also
handed out lots of fishing baits and other prizes to all of the
kids. The Junior Anglers of the year were also awarded a nice
Oakley/Quantum Fishing rod for their efforts. We would like to
thank the Northfield Township Fire Department for providing their
training room for the event.

2012 Club Classic
Title Taken by Chris Gutuskey
Results, CLICK HERE
The annual club classic tournament was held at
Lobdell Lake near Fenton. The day was cool and windy, as could be
expected in October in Michigan. Chris Gutuskey managed to catch a
decent 10.84 pound sack on a fairly tough day. He also ended
up with the big fish for the day with a 3.57 pound Largemouth.
Ironically, it beat out a 3.59 pound Largemouth, because Royce Reetz,
Jr. was 25 minutes late coming back in, oops. Only 2 limits could be had
all day. Mark Wilfong won the Boat Marshalls side of the
tournament with one 2.56 pound Largemouth. We chose this lake this year because we will be
fishing it next fall for the MBI tournament. Everyone had a
pretty good time at our once a year individual tournament. We
always fish our events as Team Tournaments. Everyone is
already looking forward to the 2013 season and we can't wait !!!!

2012
Junior State Championship
Our own CJ Hatton Wins
the 11-14 Age Group Title
For a second year in a row, one of our Junior Anglers has
managed to take a First Place Title at the Michigan BASS Nation
Junior State Championship. CJ Hatton, 14, managed to bring a
very respectable 17.71 pound sack to the scales and beat out the
other Junior Anglers in the 11-14 age group. CJ also had
the Big Fish overall for the day with a 6.02 pound Smallmouth.
The nice 6.02 pound Smallmouth was actually caught on a Cruncher
Baits Tube, Cruncher is one of our longtime sponsors. CJ has been in the club for sometime and has shown a continued
improvement in his skills and he is obviously becoming a great angler.
This is CJs last year in the 11-14 age group, he will me moving up
to the 15-18 group next season. CJ worked closely with his
Partner, Jake Dorony to find fish on Lake St Clair.
We also had another Junior Angler come in 3rd place in the
15-18 age group with a nice 15.41 pound sack of fish. Mitchell
Edds, did very well for himself. This was Mitchells first year
in the club.
CJ and the other Junior Michigan Angler, Danny Sprague from the
Junior Michigan Bass Gang went to Illinois on August to
compete at the next level at the Northern Divisional on the
Mississippi River. The fishing was tough for everyone and
neither boys finished near the top of the field. Better luck
next year. The boys
all made us very proud, apparently they are paying attention and
actually learning a thing or two... |
Our Club is currently recruiting new members. If you are
looking for a club that is a lot of fun and easy going and one that
will help you learn a lot about bass
fishing, especially if you have never been in a Bass Club Before, we
may be your club!!
We are currently
looking for both Boaters and Non-Boaters....

The 2012 season was a huge success....
We have finished all but the Club Classic
Tournament this year. The Youth club has finished up as well.. They
almost all fished every tournament. We had another winner at
the State Championship at Lake St.
Clair again this year. The club has grown quite a bit over the past
couple of seasons, with the
adult club expanding to about 18 members while the Youth club is
pushing 20 Junior Anglers. This is the largest the club has
been since we started up in 2008. We got a new sponsor on
board this year,
Oakley
Fishing came aboard this past winter.
Cruncher Baits
is still on board as well.
Gander Mountain, Novi is still helping us out with a
meeting place each month for our Junior Club. We want to
thank them all.
